KVL Facilities
All KVL facilities need to have an approved booking prior to use. Review existing bookings on our KVL Calendar below before submitting your request via the Request a booking form.
A description of all of our facilities is available at the bottom of this page.
Once you click Submit Request you should get a confirmation and a ticket number. Your booking request will also appear in the calendar below. All bookings are provisional until approved by KVL.
Facility Overviews
KVL manages five primary facilities:
- Zone 1: Windows OS based planar display wall
- Zone 1 is a Windows OS based planer display wall. It functions just like a regular Windows PC.
- Zone 2: Large planar display wall
- Zone 2 is our large display wall that has multiple control options. For information on how to control Zone 2 see our Zone 2 Guide
- Cubes: Semi-immersive curved VR display wall
- Cubes is a semi-immersive virtual reality environment featuring a 42 megapixel display.
- Multi-purpose Room (MPR): Classroom style seating and projection space
- The multi-purpose room is a large room with a 3D capable projector. This room is reserved for special functions.
- AR/VR Hub: Head-mounted VR headsets and high-end Windows OS workstations (can also be used for large-scale Avizo processing, e.g., deep learning segmentation)
- KVL has multiple head-mounted displays and high-end workstations setup for AR/VR demos and development.

Responsible Use of Facilities
To ensure that our lab facilities are used responsibly and maintained in excellent condition for everyone, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
- Please make sure you only use the facilities during your booked hours and only use the workstations/systems you booked. If you need to extend, please book for extra hours. This ensures we do not have overlapping bookings and also allows us to track usage. Please note that we have some remote users.
- Handle equipment with care. Report any malfunction or damage immediately to help@vis.kaust.edu.sa.
- Clean up after use. Return all equipment to its designated place.
- Keep security in mind. Please do not leave your accounts logged in or unattended on shared computers. If you are waiting for a deep learning training session to finish, you can lock the session (Windows key + L) and log in again at a later time to check results. But please make sure the workstation is booked even during training to ensure the training is not disrupted by other users. Log out of the workstation when you finish your session.
Please note that most of our facilities have security cameras installed.
