Overview
KVL co-organized the “Science as Art” exhibit with ANPERC at the KAUST Campus Library from February 18 - March 5, 2024. This exhibit showcased CT scan data sets from a wide range of research fields in KAUST, demonstrating the cross collaborations happening within KAUST's research community. The CT scans were visualized and presented using a wide range of techniques, including 3D volume rendering, 3D printing, and virtual reality experience.
Organizing team (left to right): Salah Alsaffar, Gabrielle Ablekskamp, Domingo Sanchez, Mariana Zapparoli, Ronell Sicat, Ali Alibrahim, Viswasanthi Chandra.
Prof. Volker Vahrenkamp gave an opening speech to officially open the exhibit. The ceremony was attended by VPR Prof. Pierre Magistretti.
One of the highlights of the exhibit was a virtual reality application where users can explore experiences that showcase some of the 3D models of datasets extracted from their CT scans.
The exhibit was visited by students from the KAUST school throughout the week. Visiting US ambassador Michael Ratney also dropped by to take a look at the exhibit.
The exhibit also showcased KVL's different data visualization capabilities, including 3D volume rendering in Avizo and virtual reality support.
