  • Review and download the workshop materials
  • Prior Knowledge: A working knowledge of VisIt is assumed for this workshop. A short intro will be given, but please watch the Introduction to VisIt Workshop if you are unfamiliar with basic VisIt operation.
  • Bring a laptop with VisIt installed
    • VisIt version 3.3.1 is required for the workshop. You can download it from the https://visit-dav.github.io/visit-website/releases-as-tables/#latest.
  • Alternatively, you can use the IT provided remote workstations in case you do not have VisIt installed (you have to request the service the first time you use it here)

Overview

The goal of this workshop is to introduce participants to augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies, and how they can be used to visualize and interact with data. Participants will be introduced to the AR and VR resources provided by the KAUST Visualization Core Lab, such as AR/VR display devices and facilities, as well as software development support. Some simple hands-on examples will be provided to participants, giving them a taste of AR/VR development. Finally, there will be an open discussion of ideas on how to possibly use AR and VR for various applications in the different research domains in KAUST.

Due to the limited time, participants will be given a chance to sign up for an additional one-on-one session with the instructor on the following day (Monday, March 20) to try AR/VR demos firsthand as well as to discuss their own ideas and questions about AR/VR. Sign ups will be done at the end of the workshop.

If you have any questions, please contact us at help@vis.kaust.edu.sa.
